HISTORY: Pulaski Middle School was first called Pico Terrace Elementary School when it was built in 1937 and later served as Pulaski High School. It became a middle school in 1974 following the consolidation of county schools and the building of Pulaski County High School, according to the Pulaski County Public Schools website.

REDEVELOPMENT STRATEGY: The Pulaski Lofts project will be redeveloped by Echelon Resources, an experienced development team with a long history of success with adaptive reuse projects.  This project will utilize both federal and Virginia historic rehabilitation tax credits which require that any significant historic features be preserved and highlighted. The project plans will be reviewed in detail by both the Virginia Department of Historic Resources and the National Park Service, with regards to compliance with the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.

REDEVELOPMENT VISION: Pulaski Lofts is the redevelopment of the historic Pulaski Middle School (500 Pico Terrace) into upscale apartments, amenities, and selected community use and commercial spaces. The project design phase is underway now. The parking and grounds will be revamped as part of this project. The historic features will be preserved and highlighted as this project utilized federal and state historic rehabilitation tax credits. These upscale apartments  will maintain many of their original historic features while offering polished concrete and hardwood floors, all-new appliances and systems, high ceilings, beautiful cabinets…and many other amazing features in this pet-friendly community.
